Thank you, Terry!
Thank you, Terry!
It is with much gratitude that we acknowledge Terry Hubbard OAM, who is retiring from the Upper Goulburn Landcare Network and Landcare Victoria Board, after many years of service. Terry has been on the Board since Landcare Victoria Inc. formed in early 2017, from a merger of the Farm Tree & amp; Landcare Association and Victorian Landcare Council. Terry was heavily involved in the process of negotiating and seeing through this merger and leading the board through the redevelopment of Landcare Victorian Inc. in 2020 to become a much more proactive and influential voice for the Victorian Landcare Community.
Terry’s impact with Landcare Victoria Inc. has been enormous. He was elected Chair of the newly formed organisation in April 2017 and has provided leadership in many different capacities since then.
Prior to the formation of Landcare Victoria, Terry served on the Victorian Landcare Council for many years as a Committee Member and President and is the past Chair of the National Landcare Network. Terry has given long service as the past President of the Strath Creek Landcare Group, President of the Upper Goulburn Landcare Network and has served on several Advisory Committees, including the Riparian Advisory Forum, the Landcare Community Reference Group and the Victorian Blackberry Taskforce. Terry was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to conservation and the environment, and in 2017 was acknowledged with the prestigious Joan Kirner Award.
Terry’s Landcare journey began in 1989 when he and his wife Janet purchased their property, ‘The Three Sisters’ in Flowerdale. Terry and Janet embarked on a long-term and ongoing restoration plan that has seen the once cleared, eroded and weed-infested property become a model of best practice sustainable farming.
Terry’s Landcare ethic is built on three critical elements; recognising the threat of land clearing, pollution and global warming, the value of Landcare for social connectivity, and an understanding of the importance of community partnerships – he values the need for grassroots collaboration that brings real landscape changes. He is always willing to provide local Landcare leadership and demonstrate what consideration of biodiversity values within productive systems can bring to Victorian landscapes.
Thank you, Terry, for your dedication, leadership, and for the profound impact you have made on Landcare in Victoria.
