UGLN Green Army – April Update
Over April our Green Army team have been busy constructing stock exclusion fencing along Andrews Creek in Taggerty and at the Merton Wetland.
They have also been removing pine saplings and prunus shrubs from significant roadside areas along Frees Road in Gobur. While they have been working on Frees Road they have carried out fauna monitoring and a bird count. Interesting wildlife so far observed has been Koala’s, Boobook Owl, Varied Sittella and Satin Flycatcher as well as the presence of pests including Fallow and Sambar Deer.
The weed control has continued and the team have been making great progress along the UT Creek in Alexandra and at The Hermitage and Woodlands properties in Narbethong.
The team also had a very productive day building and painting 40 nest boxes at the Marysville Men’s Shed which they will be installing on properties along the Andrews Creek.
Over the next month they will be regularly visiting the Yea Wetlands to help control various woody weeds and will be constructing waterway and remnant vegetation protection fencing in Glenburn. The planting season will also be starting and they will kick it off in late May with a planting day in Limestone.
