Behind the Scenes at Melbourne Museum

Last Friday the 14th November,  Strath Creek Landcare Group hosted another Focus on Fauna presentation, this time by Dean Smith, Senior Preparator at the Melbourne Museum.

Dean explained many of the technical secrets behind the wonderful displays at the Museum, including taxidermy from start to finish, botanical preservation and scale modeling including his latest project on Ball’s Pyramid on Lord Howe Island. Constant questions from many of the audience of 44 people showed that they were thoroughly absorbed in the subject and appreciated Dean’s passion for his work.

Following Dean’s talk, we will now look at the Museum’s exhibits in a new light !
