Queensland Fruit Fly

The UGLN has recently received funding from Agriculture Victoria to purchase Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) traps in an effort to determine the presence of the pest in the region.

The QFF is known to be present in Seymour, Euroa and the Yarra Valley.

Only when it’s presence is confirmed can we as a community develop a management program.

Traps can be collected from the UGLN office at Shop 5, 10 High St, Yea (within the GBCMA offices opposite Foodworks).

This trap contains a pheromone which specifically attracts the male Queensland Fruit Fly as well as an insecticide.

The pheromone is species specific so will not attract other insects.

Traps can be placed in trees approximately 1.5 metres from the ground at the start of August.

For further information please contact Judy Watts at uglandcare@ugln.net or 57974405.

This program is a partnership between UGLN, Agriculture Victoria and the Murrindindi Shire.
